photo.JPG

Purpose: Collecting plankton is important because we need to know what times of organisms live in the body of water and it is an indicator of how polluted the water is.

Materials: net
2 zip lock bags
2 wash basins

How to conduct test:
1. Take the net into the boat.
2. Skim the top of the water and scoop a net full of dirt.
3. Dump into wash basins to see if there are any organisms or macroinvertabrates.

What to do when you come back to class:
1. Use a spoon and put organism onto a slide. Look under microscope.

Typical findings: Every body of water has different types of plankton in it.
